Description

D’ou venons nou... i què fem? is a concert to be programmed in the 2005 Barcelona Festival de Música Contemporánea featuring the work of three generations of composers performed by Ensemble Trigger (Hamburg), one of Germany’s most outstanding young new music ensembles. The project joins musicans from four countries, attempting to reflect the plurality of progressive German music’s vast influence beyond its own borders.

In addition to the work of Isabel Mundry, a leading composer and teacher of her generation based in Frankfurt, the program celebrates the 65th birthday (and recent retirement from teaching) of one of Germany’s elder statesman of contemporary music, Nicolaus A. Huber, in among the very first presentations of these composers’ music in Barcelona. The program also includes music of three very different former students of Helmut Lachenmann: Magnus Lindberg (the festival composer-in-residence), and Catalans Joan Riera Robusté and Manel Ribera Torres (both former students of Walter Zimmermann as well). American expatriate composer Christopher Williams, a former student of Chaya Czernowin (though Israeli-born, an active and influential member of the German new music community), will present a piece engaging suitable issues of public and private musical “spaces”.

The event will bring contemporary music performers of exceptional caliber to Barcelona. Having collaborated with composers Manos Tsangaris, Michael Maierhof, and Banjamin Lang; worked regularly as and with improvisors and multimedia experts; and appeared as individuals with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Resonanz, and Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Trigger represents a singular aesthetic vision and talent not only among German groups, but among ensembles around the world.
